    Question: To whom is baptism to be administered?
    Answer: Baptism is to be administered to all those who actually profess repentance toward God, faith in and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ and to no other.

    EARLY MARRIAGE PROGRAM FOR PARENTING PREPARATION

    The following is our counsel for those who are newly married, to help prepare them for parenting:

    Mess Test: Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.

    Toy Test: Obtain a 55-gallon box of Lego's. (If Lego's are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks or broken bottles.) Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream. (This could wake a child at night.)

    Grocery Store Test: Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.

    Dressing Test: Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.

    Question: What is baptism?
    Answer: Baptism is a holy ordinance in which immersion in the water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit signifies our being joined to Christ and sharing the benefits of what He accomplished for us on the cross and through His resurrection.
    Scripture: Matt 28:19; Rom 6:3-5; Col 2:12; Gal 3:27.


    ANOTHER “AND THEN THE FIGHT STARTED”
    (Maybe this really happened)

    I recently turned 60 and have learned not to get too sensitive about the signs of age. But I do recall when my wife, Deb, had turned 40 and she was getting a little sensitive about the signs of advancing age. When she found a prominent gray hair in her bangs, she pointed to her forehead and asked me, "Oh no, have you seen this?"

    "What?" I said. "The wrinkles?"

    And then it started…


    FAMILY WORSHIP
    Last week I shared an article that was intended to take some of the pressure off of making family worship into something it is not supposed to be and perhaps spiritually discouraging to a family. To those who are just being lazy, the reality of Proverbs on the lazy man will probably be realized; but to those who are making an effort towards family worship but finding it difficult to do often, hopefully the article helped relieve any unnecessary guilt.

    • THE TOPIC THIS FRIDAY IS PHYSICAL INTIMACY IN MARRIAGE.

    What you will not learn if you come to CrossWalk this Friday night, July 8, 7:00 – 8:30PM at the LOFT:

    In the late 1800’s, a pastor’s wife wrote this to a young woman about her upcoming wedding night: “the wedding day is, ironically, both the happiest and most terrifying day of her life. On the positive side, there is the wedding itself; on the negative side, there is the wedding night, during which the bride must ‘pay the piper’ so to speak, by facing for the first time the terrible experience of sex… One cardinal rule of marriage should never be forgotten: Give little, give seldom, and above all give grudgingly.” (Ruth Smythers, “Instruction and Advice for the Young Bride”)

    In 1907, a popular book offered this advice to men on how to love their wife sexually: “Thousands of married men and women are suffering from the effects of excessive sexual indulgence. They drain their physical powers, weaken the intellect, and fail to attain happiness and grand results which would otherwise be possible to them. It might be said that no man of average health, physical power and intellectual acumen can exceed the bounds of once a week without at least being in danger of having entered upon a life of excess both for himself and for his wife.” (Sylvanus Stall, “What a Young Husband Ought to Know”)

    God is not silent about physical intimacy in marriage. As Douglas Wilson states: “...God has provided quite a bit of eroticism ... all that God provides is not required for many to be content, but much is provided.” We will see much of what is given this Friday, July 8 and in two weeks on Friday, July 22.

    • QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
    Question: How do baptism and the Lord’s Supper differ from the other ordinances of God?
    Answer: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper differ from the other ordinances of God in that they were specifically instituted by Christ to represent and apply to believers the benefits of the new covenant by visible and outward signs.
    Scripture: Acts 22:16; Matt 26: 26-28; 28:19; Rom 6:4.


    9 IMPORTANT STATEMENTS I HAVE LEARNED AS A HUSBAND
    As I have just turned 60 years old, my kids asked me what lesson have I particularly learned over the years. The answer was easy... I have finally figured out these 9 statements that Deb often uses in our dialogue.

    (1) Fine: This is the word Deb uses to end an argument when she is right and I need to stop talking.

    (2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if I have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

    (3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and I need to be on my toes. Discussions that begin with "nothing" usually end in “fine.”

    (4) Go Ahead: This is a dare from her, not permission, so I don't do it!
